The
University of Kentucky’s Landscape Architecture Department, housed in E.S.
Good Barn, offers a very unique experience for their students. Its not that the
classroom is located in the loft of the universities old dairy barn or that they
have 24/7 access and not that they are apart of the best college on campus, but
that each studio gets to take a week off from school and
travel the country. Every year, landscape architecture students get to choose a
city or region to travel to in the spring semester with their studio class.
This year studio classes went to New York, Robinson Forest, and San Francisco.
My studio
class went to San Francisco and witnessed some of the most BREATHTAKING places
on earth; from urban landscapes in San Francisco, to 300-foot waterfalls in
Yosemite, to 1,800-year-old trees in Mariposa Grove, this trip covered it all.
Everywhere I looked was a postcard and made me realize how lucky I am to be
apart of UK AG and the landscape architecture department. I was able to check 4
things off my bucket list: See the world’s largest trees, visit Yosemite, drive
along US 1, and cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
The University of Kentucky’s
Landscape Architecture Department opens the door for students to see the world
and experience a variety of places. We just recently started our own study
abroad trip and are making mandatory to graduate. I will be traveling to
Argentina in less than three weeks for one month!!! Its all up to you, we want
you to come see the world with us.
